BREAK THE RULES! Is that okay? These three people: Philip Treacy, Javier Senosiain and Rosa Parks were brave enough to break the everyday normality to achieve something a lot greater in the end. 

Philip Treacy and Javier Senosiain are designers who thought outside the box and took a step further to bring their crazy ideas in mind into reality. The results? Take Treacy as an example, he doesn't only bring something fresh and genuine into the fashion world but he also becomes a hat trendsetter for nowadays. Celebrities and famous people like Princess Beatrice were seen wearing these beautiful yet quirky hats. Then take a look at Senosiain's work, his snail house is an outstanding architecture work. This new idea of making a house more than just a building but to be blended in to nature shows how it breaks the rule of what we perceive a nice house would look like. No more four straight walls! Despite breaking the rules, his snail house turns out to be amazing.

Then there are rule breakers who are brave enough to put their own lives at stake in order to bring rights into the world and one of them is Rosa Parks. To say "NO" loudly was a bold move Rosa took in the early 20th century when segregation and racial discrimination were a "normal" thing in USA. As an African-American person, she was used to being discriminated through out her life, for instance, not being able to take public buses to school, having to use "black" toilet, etc. It was when she refused to say "yes" to sit at the back of the public bus, civil rights movement initiated. Her indignation towards injustice brought the change to the world. So breaking the rules don't always mean a bad thing right? We always need a break through in life to achieve something greater :)

~ Nature's Beauty ~

I found this tree at the back of NAFA campus 2 this afternoon. WOW. That was the first word that came out of my mouth when I gazed at this tree. I was walking pass by it when my eyes caught how uniquely the branches were set out. At first I thought it was someone's artwork but when I looked around it I couldn't find any name tag or any description card. I have never seen an ordinary tree has an extraordinary look like that with the branches sticking out stylishly.  It's funny how this tree actually grows right behind the fashion design campus. I wonder if the quirky groovy atmosphere of the fashion team in campus has an impact on this tree :P

"Tap tap tap" I awoke from my sleep quickly in response to what my brain registers as a fight or flight situation. Took me a few long seconds to find the meaning to the sound I heard and to know that it was the sound of rain crashing against my bedroom windows brought me a great relief. 

I have always loved rain since as long as I can remember, especially the morning downpour. I took pictures of what the view outside my window looked like and I found it fascinating. The raindrops that stick on the window, they automatically form into like an artwork full of beautiful lines and dots to me (I'm studying line and dots atm). The hues of colour of the building, trees, sky seem like being washed away by the rain. Yes it's more grey than usual but it's the shades of grey that somehow give the atmosphere of calmness and peacefulness. These are the characteristic of rain that I find really interesting :) I guess it's not only me loving the rain, the birds too start chirping, singing what sounds to me like merry songs. Have a relaxing day! :)

Insightful - You.The Unique You.

A journal. A space filled with insightful ideas, wild fantasies, anxious thoughts, secret notes, non-sense scribbles and even random doodles created out of boredom. These collections of Lynda Barry's journal pages caught my eyes as I was flicking through a book called Drawing From Life - The Journal as Art. Out of hundreds of journal pictures on the book, something really stood up from her page. Sure there are better journals than hers; ones that are really neat, well-constructed and full of detailed pictures but somehow I relate better to hers.

It's her randomness, her honesty and her unique perspective of the world emblazoned all over her journal pages which make her journal an amazing work to me. She said in the book that "whenever an errant thought gets stuck in her head, disrupting her work flow, she writes it in the journal." The scribbles, the doodles on her journal are simply her random observations or thoughts about things that happen around her. It maybe just small things like seeing birds flying to the north or feelings what she felt at the moment, but to me she is a brave person to just jot down all of them. To be random takes courage for some people, but to those who are brave enough to just be who they are and not try so hard to impress anyone else, they are being attractive just being themselves. She takes pride in her work no matter how meaningful or how useful it is. That's what I see from her journal which I find very interesting. 

I also find it interesting that Lynda dares herself to be creative in her own way. She mentioned that her journal used to be not more than complaints and pissed-off handwriting but since she tried using Asian-style brush to create slow strokes of words and pictures, Lynda gains more satisfaction with her journal artwork. Now, that is one creative & productive way to sort yourself out, isn't it?
